Groundswell is planting 6.5 acres of prairie on Saturday, December 9th from 9am-noon at Westport Prairie (5208 Bong Road, Waunakee) and we’d love for you to join.  This will be an historic planting as it will reconnect the drumlin with our remnant prairie east of the tobacco barn.  These prairies have been separated for a very long time, so reuniting them will be a grand accomplishment!

Here’s a map of the planting:

All materials and seed will be provided, so just be sure to dress for the weather (winter hat, gloves, & comfortable hiking boots are recommended) and get ready to do some walking!  If you’ve never planted a prairie in the winter before, you can expect to have a paper bag full of seed that you will sprinkle around while walking in straight lines.  Once the paper bags are empty we’ll refill and repeat until the whole area is covered with seed.  After the planting, stick around for some refreshments!

*Please note that there is no restroom for this event.*

If you would like to be a part of this planting, PLEASE EMAIL BJ at bj@groundswellconservancy.org. This way I’ll know who to contact in case there are any changes to the event.  There is no requirement to stay for the entire time, but I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday morning.  I hope to see you out there!
