Mike joined Groundswell in 2021 as a part-time Land Protection Specialist, but he is no stranger to our work. As a former wildlife biologist for the Wisconsin DNR, Mike has volunteered on the Groundswell Stewardship Committee since 2018.
During much of his 31-year career with the DNR, Mike worked with Groundswell to permanently protect hundreds of acres of public and private land in south-central Wisconsin for agriculture, habitat restoration, and public recreation. Now in semi-retirement, Mike is putting his passion for land protection back to work for one of his favorite organizations.
Mike holds degrees in wildlife biology from UW-Madison and Texas A&M, and has lived in Dane County most of his life. Mike and his spouse Carrie Morgan have two grown children, and enjoy gardening, hiking, and traveling together. Mike also enjoys getting out to fish and hunt on our beautiful public lands and waters, and the small Iowa County farm he shares with his extended family.
