Come explore the varied landscapes at Walking Iron Wildlife Area just north of Mazomanie. Hike for up to 2 miles on flat berms around the edges of the wetland area.
Groundswell transferred the 870 acres that contain Walking Iron to Dane County in 2009. Since then, the county, in partnership with Ducks Unlimited and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has transformed a large portion into wetland, with ambitious plans to do even more. James Brodzeller, Dane County’s watershed coordinator, will serve as our expert tour guide.
Dane County has offered the use of its all-terrain wheelchair for this field trip. If you or someone you know would like to use it, please email Amy Mertz (amy@groundswellconservancy.org) to reserve it no later than Monday, June 15.
